Course Outline & Costs
Driving Academy of Northwest Arkansas currently offers the courses described below. The virtual driving simulator courses have been approved as independent programs and can be taken without purchasing the comprehensive package. Otherwise, for students under age 18, state law requires driver education to include all of the courses in the comprehensive package (#101,102, and 103). Successful completion of the comprehensive course is also required in order to earn a “Certificate of Achievement” for insurance purposes.
Adults, 18 and older, may choose any course individually, but may also need the comprehensive course for insurance discounts, if applicable. Please check with your auto insurance agent.
| Comprehensive Driver Education Package | $350 $100 registration fee + $125 partial tuition + $125 balance of tuition |
| This comprehensive package of 40 total hours consists of Courses #101, 102, and 103 for a total fee of $350. | |
| Course #101: Classroom Instruction | $140 $100 registration fee |
Thirty (30) clock hours of interactive class time taught in four days as 7.5-hour sessions. Instruction will be facilitated by passionate, well-trained teachers using student-centered activities, current textbooks, media, visuals, and appropriate guest speakers. |
| Course #102: 6 Hours Behind-the-Wheel Driving Instruction | $250 for 14-17-year-olds $300 for adults (Total is due at registration. $100 is non-refundable) |
Six (6) clock hours of behind-the-wheel lessons with a professional, qualified driving instructor. One of our state-certified driving instructors will meet the student at a designated pick up and drop off point. For one and one-half hours at a time the instructor will lead the student to learn and master the skills according to our systematic skills sheets. The instructor will document the objectives introduced, tasks attempted, and his/her evaluation of the driver’s performance for each task. Driving Academy encourages a parent/guardian to ride quietly in the back seat to learn how to supervise the additional practice sessions. This course includes use of our vehicle, gasoline, and insurance on vehicle driven. |
| Course #103: Additional Required BTW Practice Documentation | Fee: N/A |
Four (4) clock hours of notarized documentation of additional behind-the-wheel driving experience with at least two of the four being at nighttime is required by state law for students under 18 years-of-age. Driving Academy provides the means of documenting the additional state-required 4 hours with a licensed parent or guardian. We also provide structured assignments to easily accomplish this. However, at the parent’s request, one of our professional driving instructors could also escort the student for these hours as outlined in Course #104 for the additional hourly fee. PLEASE NOTE: Driving Academy recommends at least two hours of supervised driving practice between driving sessions, and then additional practice to total at least 50 hours with a licensed parent or guardian. Statistics show that even more hours, (i.e., 100 to 200 total hours experience with a parent) over a year or two should be given before the teen is allowed to have unrestricted use of his/her license.

| Course #104: One Session Behind-the-wheel Instruction | $45/hour for 14- to 17-year-olds $55/hour for adults |
This is the hourly rate of BTW Driving Instruction with one of our driving professionals. This fee includes use of our vehicle, gasoline, and insurance on vehicle driven. In most cases, we will not schedule less than a 1 1/2-hour lesson. |
